GastroBitch was a name I toyed with when trying to come up with something catchy for my food blog. However, I knew that it would ellicit mail from probable sadomasochists looking for some dirty action. At least now however the name can be employed as a pseudonym for my new beautiful bitch, ‘Bear’, an 8 week old Wheaten Terrier.
One might think it a little odd to be writing about dogs on a food blog however they are inextricably linked. Specifically dogs share a remarkable similarity with us foodies in that their whole lives revolve around food. In essence they live to eat. My late food-centric hound, Brount, had a more discerning and discriminating palate than most humans. His tremendous appetite and appreciation for food made him a gourmand of the highest order. I imagine him now in doggy heaven tucking into a ten course degustation menu.

My husband recoils in horror when I reminisce about Brounts extravagant predilection for the delights of Foie Gras, Pavlova and whipped cream and has issued strict instructions that GastroBitch will only eat regular dog food. Naturally I appease him whilst deviously knowing I will never be able to resist the allure of those puppy dog eyes…

Awwww… Bear is such a cute, fluffy little thing. Congrats.
Comment by Chubby Hubby 01.23.06 @ 12:33 amBear, the trick to getting food is…. use your eyes. Look really sad, best if you can squeeze some tears out, and STARE at the food. Most of the time, you’ll get fed.
Speaking from experience.
Bea- So sorry to hear about your dog, that’s so sad.
My friend has a black Briard and she is beautiful. In fact that is one of the dogs that we considered, but it was too big for apartment life.
Chubby Hubby- thanks
Herbie- Hi Herbie, mummy showed me your picture and you are very handsome, I wish I could live in Singapore so that we could play together. Thanks for your tip, I will try it out today.

Comment by Gisellabelle 01.23.06 @ 5:29 pmPhew! When I saw the photo of Bear in your food blog, I thought for a minute you may have adopted her for reasons other than pet ownership.

I want this puppy! So cute! It makes me even almost cry as I just lost a dear Briard a few weeks ago and it was like losing a family member! Dogs are amazing! They give unconditional love.
